It had been a bit since we had a speed workout on the track at The Arrowhead, so while researching speed/interval training workouts, I was reminded of something I’d heard of before but don’t think I had ever done (at least not intentionally)…the fartlek.
We moseyed over to the MS track and did a couple laps at a comfortable mosey pace, before beginning the fartlek.
Each PAX decided on their own how long to do each segment of the fartlek, rotating in what ever order they chose between jogging, sprinting and anywhere in between….but not wearing themselves out so much that they had to either stop or walk. The idea was to keep moving at an easy mosey pace even during the “recovery” segment.
With about 10 minutes left we regrouped and attempted a “group fartlek” but quickly determined it would probably be better to break up into two different pace groups. Next time!
